Its Newsroom About page (accessed 31 August 2026) says the app has been downloaded over 630 million times, has led to over 100 billion matches, and serves approximately 50 million users a month in 190 countries and 45+ languages, with almost 60% of users aged 18–30. Those are Tinder's own global figures, not a UK FWB census.
In December 2022 Tinder rolled out Relationship Goals. The six options, from Tinder's press release of 14 December 2022, are: Long-term partner; Long-term, open to short; Short-term, open to long; Short-term fun; New friends; or Still figuring it out. That is a real improvement on hoping casual comes up in chat. It does not turn Tinder into a specialist FWB app. People still arrived for every kind of dating.
Friends with Benefits UK is the opposite design. Established 2011, UK-only, 18+, free to join. The site is for no-strings and friends-with-benefits arrangements, with local search, winks, and a paid VIP upgrade for unrestricted messaging. Where Tinder is stronger
Local volume. In most UK towns Tinder still has the largest dating-app pool. If a specialist site looks thin within twenty miles, Tinder is the rational second tab.
Casual as one option among several. Relationship Goals lets you put Short-term fun on the profile. If you might want FWB or something that becomes a relationship, that flexibility is useful. A dedicated no-strings site is less interested in the "see where it goes" crowd.
A familiar swipe habit. Most UK adults already know how Tinder works. For someone returning to dating, that familiarity is a genuine reason to open it first.
